  • Firefighter Visit – Our Local Heroes!

    On Tuesday 25th February 2025, our Reception children had a special visit from the firefighters - and their fire engine! They learnt about the protective helmets, fire-resistant uniforms, hoses, and breathing equipment that firefighters use to stay safe and save lives. The crew also explained how they remain visible, respond to emergencies, and why calling 999 is so important. A huge thank you to our local fire crew for an inspiring and educational visit!

  • Anne Frank Exhibition at Hewens College

    On Tuesday 11th February 2025, our Year 5 pupils had the incredible opportunity to visit the Anne Frank Exhibition at Hewens College. Through powerful storytelling and thought provoking displays, they learnt about Anne’s life, her diary, and the importance of standing up against injustice. The exhibition sparked meaningful discussions about kindness, equality, and resilience, encouraging pupils to reflect on history and its relevance today. We extend our gratitude to Hewens College for hosting such an insightful and impactful experience.

  • National Storytelling Week

    From Monday 3rd to Friday 7th February, Hewens Primary immersed itself in the magic of National Storytelling Week, transforming words into adventures and sparking imagination through the power of reading and discussion. Throughout the week, we were delighted to welcome over 15 parents, guardians, and carers who generously volunteered their time to read stories and engage in insightful conversations with our pupils. Their enthusiasm and storytelling skills helped spark imagination, encourage a love for reading, and create meaningful discussions.The event was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to explore new books, hear different perspectives, and deepen their appreciation for the art of storytelling. Seeing the joy on their faces as they listened and participated was truly heart-warming! Thank you to everyone who took part in making National Storytelling Week such a memorable and enriching experience. We look forward to sharing more stories together in the future!

    On Wednesday 22nd January 2025, the School Travel and Road Safety Team provided a workshop for our Reception, Year 1 and Year 4 Pupils on how to be responsible pedestrians. The children gained valuable knowledge on what to look out for when crossing the road.

  • Shine in the Kitchen!

    On Wednesday 15th January 2025, a selected group of Year 5 and 6 pupils had the wonderful opportunity to visit Rosedale College for an exciting culinary experience. Under the guidance of expert instructors, they worked together to fine-tune their baking skills and created delicious chocolate chip cookies. The session was not only a chance to develop practical kitchen techniques but also an excellent opportunity for teamwork and creativity. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and their enthusiasm shone through in the fantastic cookies they proudly brought back.

  • Attendance Assembly

    On 8th January 2025, we held a special Attendance Assembly to celebrate and recognise pupils who have achieved an impressive milestone: 100% attendance since the start of the academic year. A total of 90 certificates were awarded during the assembly: 29 to pupils in EYFS and Key Stage 1, and 61 to pupils in Key Stage 2. Attendance is not only about being present in school but also plays a crucial role in academic success. Studies consistently show a strong correlation between regular attendance and higher academic achievement. By attending school every day, pupils gain continuous access to lessons, build on their knowledge and skills, and fully participate in the school community. We are incredibly proud of all our pupils who have demonstrated such dedication and commitment. Their consistent effort sets a shining example for others and reinforces the importance of reliability and perseverance. Congratulations to all awardees, and thank you to parents, guardians and carers for supporting excellent attendance! Let’s continue working together to ensure every pupil has the opportunity to thrive through regular attendance.

He spoke about overcoming challenges, the importance of staying focused on goals, and the value of making a positive impact in the community.
