  • Trip to Hampton Court Palace

    On Friday 10th March, the Year 5 children had a fabulous day at Hampton Court Palace. They started the day by exploring the home of Henry VIII, in particular his kitchens. They soon discovered one of the worst jobs in the kitchen was being the “spit-boy”. The children learnt that this job involved continuously rotating a spit with meat on it, to ensure it was evenly cooked through. They empathised with what it would have been like and how it might compare to life nowadays.

  • The Return of Harrold!

    Over the course of the week, the children in Nursery to Year 6 had a lovely visit from their old friend Harrold (our healthy-living giraffe mascot) and his many friends. The workshops were interactive, with children feeling empowered through the use of well-being strategies to ensure they can articulate their needs and feelings to make healthy choices.

  • Upsets, Thrills and Spills!

    Just like last year, Elm class dominated the Key Stage 1 football tournament and retained the trophy for a second year running! In comparison, the Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2 finals were won by the younger classes, Pine and Hawthorn. This is the first time that we have had younger classes win a final! At hand to help capture such triumph were Pro:Direct Soccer, who are in partnership with the England Schools’ Football Association (ESFA).

  • Schools’ Football Week Assembly - Bingo Time!

    To kick off the start of Schools’ Football Week, Hewens hosted its first, Football Bingo! The activity involved children selecting their chosen number from 1 to 100 before a spinning wheel generated the winning number! As the saying goes, ‘ You have to be in it, to win it!’ Well done to the lucky children, who received a Premier League 2023 Official Sticker Album along with two sticker packets!   • Who we are and what we do!

    Over the last couple of weeks, Year 3 to 6 were visited by Metropolitan Police Officers and educated about the Police and what they do to keep the public safe, personal safety and internet safety.

    The children had an insight into the different roles within the Metropolitan Police, as well as the different types of cars they drive. As well as gaining further knowledge of how to be safe within the wider community. The children had very interesting questions and one that made the Police Officers laugh was ‘Do all Police Officers eat doughnuts?’

    Overall, it was a fun and educational experience for all. Thank you to the Metropolitan Police for keeping us safe!

  • Young Voices

    On Tuesday 17th January, our school choir journeyed to The O2 arena, to be a part of the Young Voices Concert. Our children sang and danced in unison with over 8000 other choristers to the delight of the audience. Hit songs from various genres ranging from the swinging sixties to present-day melodies were bellowed in sweet symphony.

  • Bikeability

    Earlier this week, a group of Year 6 children participated in a Bikeability Safer Cycling Course which enabled them to complete Level 1 and 2 combined. Congratulations to all those children who took part and well done for passing the course!

  • Fun Learning!

    This term, Little Acorns have been busy learning new sounds and practising to write them. Children have been encouraged to develop their phonics skills by taking part in daily reading activities in school and at home, supported by parents, guardians and carers. They have also improved their numeric skills by focusing on identifying quantities and being able to sort amounts into greater and less than categories. Children were encouraged to use cubes to match the pictures and use one to one correspondence to identify which amount of cubes is more or less.

  • FREE Asthma Workshops

    MyHealth are running FREE Asthma workshops for parents who have children with Asthma. These sessions are run by the Hillingdon Hospital asthma nurses giving you the chance to learn from health professionals and to ask them questions directly.  Some of the content included in these sessions is asthma attacks, asthma triggers, in techniques and asthma action plans.

    They are taking place on January 16th, February 6th and March 6th.

  • Ten Pin Bowling Competition

    On Wednesday 14th December 2022, six children from Key Stage 2 were selected to represent our School at the West London Ten Pin bowling qualifier to qualify for the final in February. Although we are the reigning champions, we did not qualify for the final this time round.

    Congratulations to the children who represented our school! Hopefully, we can qualify next year!
