Day Trip to Boulogne-sur-Mer, France
On Thursday 10th September 2026, some of our Year 6 pupils had the exciting opportunity to visit Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, for a wonderful day of cultural, historical and educational experiences. The trip provided pupils with the opportunity to explore the town, experience French culture and connect their classroom learning with real-life experiences. During the visit, pupils explored a number of Boulogne-sur-Mer’s most interesting and historic sites, including:
The Fish Market – pupils experienced the lively atmosphere of Boulogne-sur-Mer’s famous fishing port and learnt more about the importance of fishing to the local community.
The Old Town – pupils explored the historic heart of Boulogne-sur-Mer, taking in its beautiful streets, buildings and unique character.
The Basilica of Notre-Dame, Boulogne – pupils visited the impressive cathedral and learned about its history and architectural features.
The Ramparts – pupils walked along the historic fortified walls surrounding the Old Town and discovered more about the city’s past and how it was protected.
The Egyptian Display – pupils also had the opportunity to explore the Egyptian display, linking their visit to their learning about ancient Egypt and developing their knowledge of Egyptian history and culture.
Lunch at a French Restaurant – as part of the cultural experience, pupils enjoyed lunch at a traditional French restaurant. This gave them the opportunity to experience French cuisine and practise some of the French language and social customs they have been learning in school.
The trip was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to broaden their experiences beyond the classroom while developing their confidence, independence and appreciation of another country’s language, culture and history. A wonderful day was had by all, and our pupils represented the school exceptionally well throughout the visit. We are incredibly proud of their behaviour, enthusiasm and willingness to engage with all the experiences on offer.
