Multiplication Tables Check - Year 4

Until Friday 24th June, the Year 4 children will be taking their Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) at school, which became statutory in September 2021. The MTC is a Key Stage 2 assessment to be taken by pupils at the end of Year 4 in June. It is an online test where pupils are asked 25 questions on times tables from 2 to 12.

For every question, pupils will have 6 seconds to answer and in between the questions, there is a 3 second rest. The questions are generated randomly based on the rules of the MTC, however, questions about the 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12 times tables come up more often. The purpose of the MTC is to ensure pupils’ times tables knowledge is at the expected level.

Parents, guardians and carers are being asked to ensure that the children practise on Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) which will be of great benefit in preparing them for the Multiplication Tables Check. We suggest practising 10 to 15 minutes a day for optimal results.
